Our aim with
referring veterinarians
At Eye Clinic for Animals, our aim is to provide a
positive referral experience for
both the referring
veterinarian and the client. We appreciate that you
have referral options.
We understand that you place
your professional trust in us with your valued
clients. In return we will endeavour to offer
courteous, professional and timely service to your
clients. With almost four decades of combined
experience between Jeff and Cameron, we also are
happy to offer advice on difficult cases that you
may have. Should you feel that our service is not to
the standard that you would like, please call
either Jeff
or Cameron to discuss your concerns. We
really appreciate all feedback, be it positive or
negative.
Our expectations of referring veterinarians
There is little doubt that early referral of cases
is most likely to result in a positive referral
experience for all concerned. As you would be aware,
the eye has an amazing propensity to deteriorate
quickly in some pathologic situations. In our
experience, waiting till the last minute to refer a
case has the potential to result in higher costs,
less satisfying results, and more disgruntled
clients. Early referral in the majority of cases is
usually associated with higher success rates, better
surgical outcomes when needed, and happier clients.
Our Hours
Consultations with Eye Clinic for Animals is by
appointment only. Please do not tell the client to
turn up unexpectedly at one of our clinics, as Jeff
or Cameron may not be able to see you them at that
time. Usually either Jeff or Cameron are available
at Crow’s Nest or South Strathfield on Monday –
Friday 9.30 – 6pm, and some Saturday mornings. We
also consult 2 mornings a week at Baulkham Hills –
usually Wednesday and Friday mornings. Please ask
your client to call our clinics to find out the
times of availability.
Country Trips
Jeff and Cameron do trips outside of Sydney to
provide a more accessible service. Generally we will
go out West via the Blue Mountains, Lithgow,
Bathurst and Orange on the first Tuesday and
Wednesday of the month, Newcastle and the Central
Coast on the second Wednesday of the month, and
Wollongong and the South Coast to Albion Park, and
then onto Bowral, Moss Vale, Goulburn and Canberra
the third Tuesday and Wednesday of the month. This
general timetable is subject to change. Usually we
notify referring practices a week or so prior to our
visit.
What we will
and will not do
Generally speaking, we will not do things that
general practitioners ordinarily do such as
vaccinate or worm animals, scale teeth under
anaesthesia, provide flea treatments etc. This is
not our area of expertise. Furthermore the last
thing we want to do is deprive our referring vets of
this business stream, and thereby alienate ourselves
from them. Similarly, we may ask the client to have
a systemic workup for various systemic diseases with
the referring veterinarian. Whilst we are interested
in the outcomes, the ultimate responsibility for the
workup is with the referring practitioner. Often the
eyes are an innocent bystander to the underlying
disease process.
Prescription
Drugs
Eye Clinic for Animals is able to supply referring
veterinarians with various medications which we
compound or have a compounding pharmacist do for us.
This includes but is not limited to tacrolimus
ointment, cyclosporine drops, sodium chloride gel,
idoxuridine and itraconazole ointment. However, it
is a legal requirement of the Veterinary Surgeons
Act that we can only supply such medications to
animals that are clients of Eye Clinic for Animals
and by prescription. Furthermore, medications can
only be prescribed for a year after the last
consultation. If you have any queries about this
then please feel free to contact us.
